What the Nickname field does
The Nickname field stores an alternate name for a contact. It is separate from First Name and does not change how the contact's name appears in the header of their profile, which is built from Title, First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, and Suffix. When you send a one-to-one email from the contact's profile, the app uses the nickname (if set) instead of the first name when filling in the {nickNameOrFirstName} email template variable.
How to add or edit a nickname
Open the contact's profile.
Click the contact's name at the top of the profile. The name fields become editable inline.
Find the Nickname field in the row of name fields.
Type the preferred name into the Nickname field.
Press Enter or click outside the name area to save. The fields submit automatically when focus leaves the form.
Removing a nickname
Follow the same steps and clear the Nickname field. Saving an empty value removes the nickname. After that, the {nickNameOrFirstName} variable in email templates falls back to the contact's First Name.
Notes
The Nickname field is available alongside Title, First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Suffix, and Pronouns when editing the name.
The contact's displayed name (shown in the profile header and most list views) is not affected by the Nickname field.
Nickname is stored on the contact record and is visible when merging duplicate contacts.
