What do the portfolios invest in?

You should expect to see the bulk of your investments held in a hand-picked selection of exchange traded funds (ETFs).

ETFs make up the core of what we do and we spend a lot of time researching the ETFs on the Australian market to answer the question, "is this ETF the best way for us to get exposure to this asset class?"

ETFs sit right in the sweet spot of what we believe a Core Portfolio should be:

  • Proven (i.e. based on objective empirical evidence over decades, not weeks or months);

  • Low-cost (for maximum compounding, since fees are a big reason most investors do poorly);

  • Low turnover (for tax reasons, every time you buy or sell there will be a tax bill to pay — which significantly drags on your investing returns), and

  • Easy to understand (if you cannot sleep-at-night with your portfolio, whether it’s managed by us or you, it won’t be sustainable over the long run)

There may be a time when it is fortuitous to use active ETFs in the portfolios or individual stocks. These will only be used if they add diversification and are the best way to get exposure to a specific asset class or theme and are inline with the mandate of the portfolio.

Can I have multiple investment accounts linked to the one login?

Yes you can. When you first join Rask Invest you will open an account as a user and then go on to start an investment application which opens your investment account. We are able to link multiple investment accounts to a users login.

This is most commonly done when someone has multiple entities they wish to invest in. For example, you may have an investment account in your own name, one in joint names, one for your SMSF and one for your family trust. All of these accounts can be linked to the one Rask Invest login making it easy for you to toggle between the different entities.

What is the minimum investment amount?

The minimum investment amount is set at $20,000. The reason for this is so our portfolios can maintain a minimum level of efficiency for your account.

A smaller balance would see brokerage (unlike a lot of other services your investments are held on a HIN and not a custodian - this was incredibly important to us for the security of your investments) but this does mean there are brokerage costs. The smaller the balance of a portfolio the more significant these become.

Additionally, the minimum balance allows us to maintain diversification across asset classes.

Who can invest with Rask Invest?

Those who can open an account with Rask Invest include but are not limited to:

  • Individuals

  • Joint Applicants

  • Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (Corporate & Individual Trustees)

  • Companies

  • Trusts (Corporate & Individual Trustees)

  • Adults on behalf of Children

Please feel free to click any of the options above to find out the information required to submit your application.

If you fall outside these categories, please contact our friendly team via the chat function in the bottom right of the screen.

Is there a minimum time period to invest?

The short answer is no. There is no minimum investment period you need to remain invested for. If you fund your account one day and your personal circumstances dramatically change the next you can withdraw funds from your account or close it completely with no penalty. Please allow up to five business days for your funds to land in your bank account from when you authorise the withdrawal request.

We understand life can sometimes make a mess of the best laid plans and the beauty of investing in assets such as ETFs (as opposed to say, a physical property) is how liquid they are. Saying that, the Rask Invest portfolios are designed for long-term investors. Below you will see the suggested timeframes for our portfolios:

  • Retirement Passive Income Core (50/50) Terra = 5+ years

  • Growth + Income Core (70/30) Martian = 7+ years

  • High Growth Core (90/10) Jupiter = 10+ years

Before investing with us at Rask Invest we believe investors should be able to say "yes" to these three statements:

  • I have a savings buffer which I will be able to use for any short-term unforeseen expenses

  • I have selected a Rask invest portfolio in line with my long-term investment objectives and not just by selecting the portfolio with the highest performance

  • I understand investment markets will fluctuate and I am comfortable with components on my portfolio or my whole portfolio showing a negative return from time to time.

Is Rask Invest a managed fund?

Rask Invest accounts are Professionally Managed Accounts. They are not a managed fund. Our investment structure differs from a managed fund in a number of ways:

  • Every investor has their own account. In the case of a managed fund everyone is in the one account and your ownership of that pool is a portion of the units in that pooled investment.

  • Rask Invest investors have full legal ownership of the investments held. In the case of a managed fund a custodian owns the underlying assets and the investor has beneficial ownership

  • The Rask Invest team will select the assets you invest in, just like a fund manager would, but you get full transparency over them. You will see every transaction, dividend and fee. Unlike a managed fund where investors will typically only see the top ten holdings at a certain point in time.

Do I own the investments?

Yes, you will be the registered and legal owner of the investments held in a CHESS sponsored account in the name of the account holders or entity that holds the Professionally Managed Account (PMA). This was incredibly important to us here at Rask Invest.

Each holding is uniquely identified by a Holder Identification Number (HIN), providing a clear and traceable record of ownership for added transparency and security.

Additionally, this means investors who are closing their account can choose to transfer out the holdings to their brokerage account. Please see the PDS for transfer costs.

Is Rask Invest Secure?

The security of your account and investments is incredibly important to us, it's everything and we take multiple steps to ensure your holdings and account are safe:

The security of your holdings:

Each investors holdings is held in your own name (or name of your entity e.g. SMSF, company etc) with CHESS. Each investor has their own HIN. This means, if anything was to happen to Rask Invest or Rask Invests partners your investments will remain your investments and you will be able to move them to a brokerage account of your choosing.

Two factor authentication upon login:

Two factor authentication is available to be turned on via the My Account section. Here you will be able to choose from text message, email, or any of the standard 2FA apps such as Google Authenticator, Authy or Microsoft Authenticator.

Verification requirements to make changes to your account:

When you go to change your account settings (e.g. add or amend a regular contribution plan), change your investment model or make a withdrawal you will need to verify the request through an email or text code.

Storage of information:

We use bank-level web security that keeps your information safe and secure, this is our 256-bit SSL/TLS certificate.
