To prevent double payments, you’ll need to do two things:
Use a clean invoice template in Xero without payment methods.
Disable automated payment collection for that invoice template inside GoCardless.
Steps to follow
Create a new invoice template in Xero (if you haven’t already)
In Xero, go to Settings > Invoice Settings.
Click New Branding Theme.
Remove all payment methods (e.g. GoCardless, Stripe, bank details).
Name this template clearly, e.g. “Rechargly – No Payment Methods”.
Assign this template to Rechargly
In Rechargly, go to Recurring Invoice Settings.
Under Invoice Template, select the Xero template you just created.
Click Submit.
Disable GoCardless auto-pay for the Rechargly template
Log into your GoCardless for Xero dashboard.
Click the + icon in the left menu to open Settings.
Select Xero Payments.
Find the branding theme you created for Rechargly (e.g. “Rechargly – No Payment Methods”).
Toggle Automated Payments OFF for this branding theme.
Click Save Changes.
