Introducing Workspaces: built for how music actually gets made

A note from the Record Union team

For a long time, Record Union was built around a single assumption, that one person manages a release. One account, one owner, one person who knows where everything is. That assumption was wrong for a lot of you, and we knew it.

We've spent the last years watching how independent artists and labels actually work. You're in a band making decisions across three or four people who all have a stake in the outcome. You're a producer juggling releases across half a dozen artists. You're a manager trying to hold together a roster without a single place to see the full picture. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, someone's sharing a login they probably shouldn't be, splits are living in a spreadsheet only one person can find, and ownership questions get settled over text messages. We knew something needed to change, so we got to work.

"We knew something needed to change, so we got to work."

Why we built Workspaces

We got tired of watching collaboration happen around our platform instead of inside it. Workspaces are our attempt to fix that properly. Not a workaround or a bolt-on feature, but a genuine rethink of the structure underneath everything. Your workspace is where everything lives: your releases, your team, your royalties, your catalog. So now Record Union holds it together, so you don't have to.

What's actually changing

Everyone gets a workspace. If you're on Core, you'll notice a cleaner design and not much else, which is exactly the point. Simple should stay simple.

If you're on Pro, this is where it opens up. Multiple workspaces to keep projects and teams separate.

  • Collaborators with their own accounts, no more shared logins

  • Royalty splits visible and agreed on from day one

  • Roles assigned so everyone knows what they're responsible for

  • A clear overview of ownership across every release

  • Revenue tracked and distributed across your whole team

  • Analytics across your full catalog, not just release by release

How we're rolling it out

We're doing it in phases so it feels like a natural step forward.

  • New users get access first, with the full new experience from day one

  • Existing users follow over the next couple of months, your releases move over automatically with nothing to set up

  • Pro features roll out alongside, with guides and support ready at every step

This is a big change and we don't expect it to be perfect straight out of the gate. If something feels off or you can't find what you're looking for, we genuinely want to hear about it. And if you ever need a human to talk to, our support team is always there.

Independent doesn't mean alone. It never did. It just meant the tools weren't there to reflect that, until now.

With love,
The Record Union team
