Welcome to Record Union, where your musical journey reaches the global stage. Whether you're a budding artist or an established musician, understanding how to effectively upload and distribute your music is crucial. This article will guide you through the process of getting your music live on Record Union, ensuring you're well-equipped to share your music with the world. 🎶

Step 1: Sign up for a Record Union account.

The first step is to sign up for an account on Record Union. Once your account is set up, you're ready to start uploading your music.

Step 2: Upload your music and cover art. Add your release metadata and artists.

Before uploading, ensure your music files are in the correct format. Record Union accepts audio tracks in WAV or FLAC formats. For more details on file formats and conversion methods, please refer to this helpful article.

If you're using samples, instrumentals or any other recording you don't own, please ensure you have the necessary permissions to use them for commercial purposes. Please have these written permissions ready and send them to support@recordunion.com after you've successfully uploaded.

Your release also needs a compelling cover that adheres to digital store standards. The cover art is often the first impression listeners have of your music, so make sure it represents your tracks well. For more guidance, check out our article on cover art.

Once these files are ready, log into your Record Union account and click on the "New release" button. You'll be guided through a series of steps to upload your tracks.

Here, you can also add important metadata such as:

Release title

Track title/s

Artist names

Genres

Composers, lyricists

Production roles such as producer, mastering engineer and mixing engineer

Personnels who performed the vocals, background vocals and specific instruments.

Accurate metadata is crucial as it helps listeners find your music and make sure you get paid correctly.

Here are the articles for the metadata guidelines and adding contributors to your tracks.

Please note: There are certain types of content that we do not deliver such as podcasts, nature sounds, ASMR, audiobooks, stand up comedy and spoken word.

New Age and meditation content can only be delivered if it’s completely original music and does not match to content that’s already online. We do not accept meditation releases that are instrumental.

We accept music in the Classical genres, however we do not deliver classical music that’s in the public domain.

Please visit this page to learn more about our content guidelines.

Step 3: Submit your release.

Once you've uploaded your tracks, entered all necessary information, and uploaded your artwork, review everything carefully. When you're satisfied and have ensured everything is correct, you can submit your release. Record Union will then review and distribute your music to major streaming platforms and digital music stores worldwide. This process typically takes about 14 days, but with the "Rapid Delivery" add-on, your release can go live as early as 5 days!

Our pricing starts at $14, depending on how many tracks you add to a release, how many music services you want to make it available on (you can distribute your music to up to 22 digital services), and the royalty percentage you choose. You may go here for more information.

Step 4: Wait for your royalties!

As a digital music distributor, Record Union takes care of aggregating any money your music earns from your chosen digital services. Once your music is live, you can use Record Union’s dashboard to track streams, downloads, and royalties, which will show up on your account Balance.

Your royalty reports are uploaded 3 months in arrears. This means that any royalties for releases that went online in January will be uploaded in April; releases that went online in February will have their reports uploaded in May and so on. These data from digital services, offer insights into your audience and helps plan future releases. Here's an article about how sales reporting works.

Additionally, you can claim your artist pages on various platforms where your music is available.

How old do I have to be to use Record Union?

In order to use Record Union as your distributor you will have to be at least 18 years old.

If you're under 18, you need a parent or legal guardian to manage your account. These are the things that need to be managed by your parent or guardian:

  • Agreeing to the terms and conditions

  • Managing payments

  • Managing royalty payouts

Uploading your music to Record Union is a straightforward process that opens up numerous opportunities for artists. By following these steps, you ensure that your music reaches audiences around the globe while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation. Start your journey today and let the world hear your sound!
