Housing vouchers — what they are and how to enter yours

Section 8 and other housing voucher info — what each field means and where to find your voucher details.

If you're applying with a housing voucher (like Section 8), some properties will ask you to enter your voucher information. Here's what each field is asking for.

What is a housing voucher?

A housing voucher is government assistance that helps pay your rent. The most common is the Housing Choice Voucher (often called Section 8), and there are others — VASH for veterans, state and local programs, and more.

If you have a voucher

You'll be asked for:

  • Housing Voucher # — the unique number on your voucher paperwork

  • Voucher Amount — the dollar amount your voucher covers each month

  • Voucher Bed Count — the number of bedrooms your voucher is approved for

You can find these on the voucher paperwork issued by your local housing authority. If you can't find them, contact your case worker.

If you don't have a voucher

The voucher fields are optional. If you're not using one, you can leave them blank and continue.

If your voucher hasn't been issued yet

If you've applied for a voucher but it hasn't been approved yet, leave the fields blank. Once your voucher is issued, contact the property manager directly to share the details.
