Found under Settings → Deposits. Four options, each trading off cash flow, customer friction and how protected you are.
💰 Up-front deposit
Charged with the rental, refunded after a clean return. Strongest protection — but the customer pays more today and you have to remember to refund.🪪 Card hold
An authorisation reserves the deposit without charging it, released on return. Much lower friction, but a hold expires after about 7 days.🧠 Smart deposit
Chosen automatically per rental: a hold when the trailer comes back within 5 days, a charged deposit when it is longer — so a hold can never lapse and leave you unprotected. This is the one most operators want.🚫 No deposit
Nothing held or charged. Lowest friction, no protection.
🔢 Setting the amount
Either a multiple of the daily rate, which scales per trailer (1.5× on a $99/day trailer is roughly a $149 deposit), or a flat amount that is the same for every trailer.
🚜 Can I set a different deposit on just one trailer?
Not today — the deposit setting applies to your whole fleet. If one trailer needs more protection than the rest, the usual approach is to pick multiple of the daily rate rather than a flat amount, so the deposit scales with each trailer's price on its own. If you genuinely need a per-trailer deposit, tell us — we are tracking how many people ask.
💡 Pro Tip
Marking a rental returned settles the deposit for you — releasing the hold or leaving the charge to be refunded. It is one more reason not to leave a returned trailer showing as Out.
