Do all tenants in a shared tenancy need to apply?

How shared tenancies work: who needs to apply, what rent to enter and why.

Written by Joe Wigoder

Yes. Every tenant named on the tenancy agreement needs to complete their own Rentmigo application, in their own name.

If you've received an invite link

Each tenant gets their own link. Please don't forward your link to someone else or fill in another tenant's application for them, as this causes delays.

If you're signing up yourselves

Make sure everyone enters exactly the same property address and unit number, so we can link your applications together.

What rent should I enter?

Enter your own share of the rent, not the total. For example, if the total rent is £2,400 a month and two of you split it equally, you each enter £1,200.

Why we ask for your share

On a joint tenancy, all tenants are jointly and severally liable. This means each tenant is responsible for the whole rent, not just their share, and your guarantee is for the full rent. The share you enter is simply used by us to check affordability.

What if one tenant isn't paying any rent?

Anyone named on the tenancy agreement still needs to apply, even if they're not contributing. They should enter £0 as their share and complete the identity and basic information steps.

Does someone living there but not on the tenancy agreement need to apply?

No. Only tenants named on the tenancy agreement need to apply.

When does the agreement go out?

The Rent Guarantee Agreement is sent out automatically once all tenants have been approved and paid.
