Can a new tenant be added to a tenancy later?

How a new tenant can be added to a tenancy that already has a Rentmigo guarantee, with no extra fee.

Written by Joe Wigoder

Yes. If someone needs to be added to a tenancy that already has a Rentmigo guarantee in place, the existing arrangement stays as it is and the new tenant is added to it.

When this applies

This is for adding a tenant to an existing tenancy agreement that remains in place. Common examples include someone who has just turned 18, someone whose Right to Rent documents have now come through, or a partner or family member moving in.

If a completely new tenancy agreement is being drawn up instead, the new tenancy goes through the standard Rentmigo application process.

How it works

1. The new tenant applies. They complete their own Rentmigo application so we can carry out our standard identity and affordability checks.

2. We add them to the guarantee. Once they're approved, we issue a side letter that formally adds them to the existing Rent Guarantee Agreement. Nothing needs to be cancelled or restarted.

Is there an extra fee?

No. If the fee has already been paid in full on the existing guarantee, there's nothing more to pay.

How to start

Message us on live chat or email support@rentmigo.co.uk with the property address and the new tenant's name and email, and we'll send them an invite.
