Overview
When a patient adds items to cart but does not complete checkout, RepeatMD sends automatic reminders to help them return and finish the purchase. These abandoned cart notifications run in the background — your team does not manage follow-ups manually.
This article is for practice owners, managers, and admins who want to understand how cart recovery works and when patients are (and are not) messaged.
Before You Start
No setup is required. Abandoned cart notifications are enabled automatically for eligible patients.
Patients must have opted in to the relevant communication channels (push notifications and/or SMS) to receive reminders.
Custom Plan patients follow a separate communication flow and do not receive the abandoned cart sequence.
Timing and message copy are not customizable in the Admin Panel. RepeatMD uses a fixed three-touch sequence based on industry best practices.
Why It Matters
Cart abandonment is common in mobile commerce. Reminder sequences help recover purchases patients intended to complete but did not finish in the moment.
For your practice, abandoned cart notifications can:
Recover revenue from carts that would otherwise go stale.
Reduce manual follow-up — staff do not need to track individual shoppers or send one-off reminders.
Improve patient convenience with a one-tap link back to the cart they left behind.
Industry benchmarks suggest a significant share of carts are abandoned and that timed reminders recover a meaningful portion of those lost sales. Exact results vary by practice, catalog, and patient base.
How It Works
Trigger: A patient adds a product or service to cart in the Patient App and exits before completing checkout.
Three-touch reminder sequence: After a cart is created, eligible patients may receive up to three reminders:
30 minutes after cart creation — push notification (if push is enabled)
1 day after — SMS
3 days after — push notification (if push is enabled)
Channel fallback: If a patient does not have push notifications enabled, they receive SMS instead of push where applicable.
Sequence stops when:
The patient completes checkout — reminders end immediately.
The patient clears their cart — messaging stops.
Return path: Each reminder includes a unique deep link that opens the patient’s cart directly, reducing friction on return.
Custom Plans: Patients on Custom Plans already receive a dedicated communication flow. They do not receive the standard abandoned cart sequence.
Opt out: If your practice prefers not to send abandoned cart reminders, contact support@repeatmd.com or your Customer Success Manager. RepeatMD can disable the sequence for your account.
Step-by-Step Instructions
This feature requires no admin configuration. The steps below describe what happens automatically after a patient abandons a cart.
What happens when a patient abandons a cart
The patient browses the shop and adds one or more items to cart.
The patient leaves the app or navigates away without completing checkout.
RepeatMD starts the reminder sequence for eligible patients (not on Custom Plans).
The patient may receive a push or SMS reminder at 30 minutes, 1 day, and 3 days after cart creation.
If the patient taps the reminder link, the Patient App opens directly to their cart.
If the patient completes purchase or clears the cart, no further reminders are sent.
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Keep your shop catalog current so returned carts show accurate pricing and availability.
Ensure SMS and push opt-in flows are healthy — patients who are not opted in will miss reminders.
Brief front desk staff so they can answer patient questions about reminder texts.
Review shop performance in reporting after campaigns or catalog changes to see whether recovered carts trend up.
Contact support to opt out if your brand prefers not to send automated cart reminders.

Q: What channel do patients receive?
A: Push notifications when enabled; otherwise SMS. The 1-day reminder is SMS.
