Overview
Affirm lets you spread the cost of eligible in-app purchases over time with transparent terms and no hidden fees from Affirm. When your practice enables Affirm, you can choose it as a payment method at checkout for treatments, packages, and products added to your cart in the Patient App.
This article is for patients using the Patient App. Practice owners and staff should see the Affirm admin articles linked in Next Steps and Support for in-office policy, denials, pricing, refunds, and reporting.
Before You Start
You must complete the purchase in the Patient App. Affirm is not available for purchases made outside the app.
Your cart total must be between $50 and $30,000 USD. Carts outside this range will not show Affirm.
Memberships cannot be financed with Affirm. Remove memberships from your cart before selecting Affirm for other items.
Affirm availability depends on your eligibility. Approval is a real-time decision from Affirm, not RepeatMD.
After purchase, you manage installment payments at affirm.com or in the Affirm app.
Why It Matters
Affirm gives you flexible payment options for care you want now:
Spread costs over time with terms from 3 to 36 months, based on eligibility and cart size.
See your total cost upfront before you confirm. Affirm does not charge late fees.
Complete checkout in minutes with a real-time approval decision for most applicants.
Use Affirm in or out of the office as long as you check out in the Patient App.
How It Works
Where Affirm appears. Add eligible items to your cart and proceed to checkout. If your cart qualifies, Affirm appears as a payment option alongside card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Cart eligibility. Affirm is available only when:
The cart total is $50–$30,000 USD
The cart does not include memberships
All items are eligible for Affirm financing (some restricted item types may block Affirm for the entire cart)
Application flow: Selecting Affirm redirects you to Affirm’s checkout experience:
First-time Affirm users enter basic information, verify their mobile number with an SMS PIN, and receive an underwriting decision (typically about 15 seconds).
Returning Affirm users sign in with their phone number and see their loan decision faster.
Choosing terms: If approved, Affirm presents up to three payment options with terms from 3 weeks to 36 months, depending on your cart size, credit history, and your practice’s Affirm program. You review monthly payment, term length, maximum interest, and total cost before confirming.
After confirmation: Once you confirm your payment plan and complete checkout, your order processes in RepeatMD. You make installment payments to Affirm at affirm.com or in the Affirm app. You can enable AutoPay in your Affirm account.
Partial approval and down payments: If Affirm does not approve the full cart amount, you may be offered a down payment option. You cannot edit the down payment amount or request one if Affirm did not offer it.
One loan per checkout: Each Affirm checkout creates its own loan and payment schedule. You cannot merge separate purchases into one loan after the fact.
After purchase: You cannot change an completed order’s payment method to Affirm. The original order must be cancelled and refunded, then reprocessed with Affirm at checkout.
Affirm marketing in the app: Your practice may show Affirm banners while you browse. See Affirm marketing banners across the patient shopping experience for where banners appear.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Finance a purchase with Affirm at checkout
Open your practice’s Patient App and sign in.
Browse or search for treatments, packages, or products and add items to your cart.
Confirm your cart total is between $50 and $30,000 USD and does not include a membership.
Tap Checkout and select Affirm as your payment method.
On Affirm’s screen, complete the application:
New to Affirm: Enter your information, verify your phone with the SMS PIN, and wait for the decision.
Returning user: Sign in with your phone number.
Review the 1–3 payment plan options Affirm offers. Compare monthly payment, term length, and total cost.
Review the Truth in Lending Disclosure (number of payments, amount per payment, first due date).
Confirm your payment plan to complete the order.
Your order processes in RepeatMD after Affirm confirmation. Manage future payments in your Affirm account.
Troubleshoot a missing Affirm option
If Affirm does not appear at checkout, check the following:
Cart total: Confirm the total is between $50 and $30,000 USD. Adjust the cart if needed.
Memberships: Remove any membership from the cart. Affirm cannot finance memberships, and a membership in the cart blocks Affirm for the entire order.
Restricted items: Confirm no cart items are restricted from Affirm financing.
Eligibility: Affirm may not be available for every applicant or in every region. Try another payment method if Affirm remains unavailable.
If Affirm still does not appear and your cart qualifies, contact your practice or support@repeatmd.com.
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Check your cart before checkout. Remove memberships and confirm the total is within the $50–$30,000 range.
Review all plan options. Terms vary by eligibility, choose the schedule that fits your budget.
Read the Truth in Lending Disclosure before confirming. Your total cost is fixed on day one.
Use AutoPay in Affirm to avoid missed installment payments.
Contact Affirm for loan questions. RepeatMD does not manage or adjust Affirm installment schedules after purchase.
Common Mistakes and FAQs
Q: Can I use Affirm for an in-office purchase?
A: Yes, but only through the Patient App. Complete the purchase on your phone in the office or remotely — Affirm is not available outside the app. See Use Affirm for in-office purchases (Admin Panel) for staff guidance.
Q: Why is Affirm not showing at checkout?
A: Common reasons include a cart total outside $50–$30,000 USD, a membership in the cart, restricted items, or Affirm eligibility. See Troubleshoot a missing Affirm option above.
Q: Can I finance a membership with Affirm?
A: No. Remove memberships from your cart to use Affirm for other eligible items.
Q: Can I combine two purchases into one Affirm loan?
A: No. Each checkout creates a separate loan. To combine amounts, you would need to pay off or cancel an existing loan and apply for a new one covering the combined total.
Q: What if I am not approved for the full cart amount?
A: Affirm may offer a down payment option. You cannot change the down payment amount Affirm sets. See When a patient is denied by Affirm (Admin Panel) for staff context.
Q: What APR will I pay?
A: Rates range from 0–36% APR based on your credit history and your practice’s Affirm program. Affirm shows your exact terms before you confirm. See What will my patients pay if they use Affirm? (Admin Panel).
Q: Can I switch to Affirm after I already paid with a card?
A: No. The original order must be cancelled and refunded, then reprocessed with Affirm at checkout.
Q: Who do I contact about my Affirm payments after purchase?
A: Contact Affirm Customer Care at helpcenter.affirm.com or 855-423-3729. RepeatMD does not adjust Affirm installment plans.
