Do I have to stop taking sleeping pills to start the program?

How do sleeping pills, tablets, medication, aids or supplements interact with the program?

You do not need to stop taking sleeping pills/medication or supplements to start your re:sleep program! We understand that sleep retraining can be tricky, and we don't want to make it any harder than it needs to be. Plus, you can still see significant results even while using them.

Here’s what you should know:

- Progress May Be Slower: If you’re using sleeping pills, progress might take a little longer compared to those not on medication, but that’s perfectly fine. The most important thing is to follow the program consistently and focus on long-term results. If you feel continuing with your sleeping aids would make the behavioural changes more manageable and sustainable, this should be the focus over the speed of your progress!

- Your Choice to Change: Whether and when to stop or reduce your sleeping pills is entirely up to you! If you do decide to make changes, the most important thing is to consult your prescribing physician before adjusting any medication. This ensures that any changes to your regimen are safe and medically appropriate.

- Rebound Insomnia: If you choose to reduce or stop your sleep aids, it helps to be mindful that rebound insomnia may occur causing a temporary worsening of sleep. This can feel frustrating, but don’t worry; it’s a short-term effect that typically passes within a few days!

re:sleep focuses on creating sustainable, long-term sleep improvements and whether you continue taking sleeping pills or not, you can still benefit from the program’s strategies. Most importantly, if you have any concerns, it’s always best to consult with your doctor.
