How does Upsell work?

Learn how the Upsell feature works in Returbo and how to offer store credit bonuses to encourage customers to choose store credit instead of refunds.

Upsell is a feature that encourages customers to choose store credit instead of a refund during the return process.

It is available for merchants on the Premium plan.

What is Upsell?

Upsell offers customers a bonus if they choose store credit instead of a standard refund.

The bonus can be:

  • A fixed amount (e.g. 100 SEK)

  • A percentage of the returned items’ value (e.g. 20%)

The offer appears just before the return request is finalized.

Important

  • The store credit is only issued after the item has been returned and the refund is approved.

  • The store credit is sent as a gift card.

  • The gift card is issued in your store’s currency (not the customer’s currency), in accordance with Shopify rules.


Why use Upsell?

Upsell helps you:

  • Increase retained revenue

  • Encourage repeat purchases

  • Reduce cash refunds

  • Improve customer lifetime value

Instead of losing revenue, you keep it within your store.


How to activate Upsell

  1. Go to the Returbo app

  2. Navigate to:
    Settings → Request settings → Returns

  3. Scroll down to Upsell: store credit via gift card

  4. Activate the feature

You can then choose:

  • A percentage bonus
    or

  • A fixed amount (based on customer currency, e.g. 10 EUR, 50 SEK)

Save your settings once configured.


What does this look like for customers?

When a customer submits a return:

  1. They select the items to return

  2. They see a summary of the request

  3. They are offered store credit with a bonus instead of a standard refund

Example:
If you offer a 20% bonus, the customer sees the additional value they receive by choosing store credit.

In the final step (when receiving the return slip, if auto-generation is enabled), they will see confirmation of the bonus they will receive once the return is processed.

If the customer selects standard refund, no bonus is applied.
