Choosing the right cleats depends on the surface you play on. Here's a quick guide to help you pick the right pair.
Turf shoes (TF / artificial grass)
Best for: Artificial turf and indoor surfaces
Turf shoes have short rubber studs spread across the entire outsole. They provide grip on artificial grass without digging in too deep, which reduces the risk of knee and ankle injuries on hard turf surfaces.
Choose turf shoes if:
You mostly play on artificial turf (3G/4G)
Your league requires turf-appropriate footwear
You want a shoe that also works for training on hard ground
Molded cleats (FG β firm ground)
Best for: Natural grass (dry to slightly wet)
Molded cleats have non-removable studs built into the outsole. They're the most versatile option and work well on natural grass fields in normal conditions.
Choose molded cleats if:
You play on natural grass fields
You want one pair that works for games and practice
The weather is usually dry or mild
Detachable cleats (SG β soft ground)
Best for: Wet, muddy, or soft natural grass
Detachable cleats have screw-in studs (usually metal) that provide maximum grip in wet and muddy conditions. They dig deeper into soft ground for better traction.
Choose detachable cleats if:
You play in rain or on soft, wet fields
You want customizable stud length
Your league allows metal studs
Quick comparison
Turf (TF): Short rubber studs β Artificial turf, indoor
Molded (FG): Fixed plastic studs β Dry/normal natural grass
Detachable (SG): Screw-in metal studs β Wet/muddy natural grass
β οΈ Important: Using molded or detachable cleats on artificial turf can increase your risk of injury and may not be allowed in some leagues. Always check your league's rules.
