Warranty on cleats and football shoes — what's covered and what isn't

Cleats warranty, shoe warranty, broken stud, worn cleats, football footwear warranty, early defect vs. normal wear, what counts as a defect.

Written by Reyrr Athletics

Football cleats are high-wear products. Warranty on footwear is narrower than on protective gear — here's how it works at Reyrr Athletics.

👟 Quick rule: If the problem appears in the first 1–2 months of normal use, it's likely a defect. If it appears later, it's almost always wear.

✅ What the warranty covers

Manufacturing defects that appear within the first 1–2 months of normal use:

  • Sole separating from the upper along the bond line

  • Broken stitching or seams coming apart without impact

  • Upper material splitting along a seam

  • Studs detaching due to a bonding or molding fault

  • Insole or heel counter collapsing out of the box

These are faults that come from the factory, not from playing.

❌ What the warranty does NOT cover

  • Broken, worn-down or torn studs after extended use

  • Sole wear, tread wear, or cleat flattening

  • Upper abrasion, mesh tears from contact, or scuff damage

  • Damage from use on the wrong surface (molded cleats on artificial turf, detachables on hard ground, any cleats on concrete or asphalt)

  • Heel or toe blowouts after weeks or months of play

  • Smell, discoloration, or fading

⚠️ Cleats are a consumable. Even elite players go through multiple pairs per season. A stud failing after months of play on mixed grass types is fatigue from use, not a defect.

🔍 How to tell the difference

Defect (warranty):

  • Problem appears in the first few sessions

  • The rest of the shoe looks otherwise unworn

  • The failure is along a seam, bond line, or molded joint

  • No impact damage or surface mismatch

Wear (not warranty):

  • Problem appears after weeks or months

  • Surrounding areas show matching wear

  • Usage has included mixed surfaces or non-playing surfaces (concrete, gym floors, bleachers)

🧤 Make your cleats last longer

  • Match the cleat to the surface — molded/nylon for natural grass, turf shoes for artificial turf, detachables only on soft natural grass

  • Never walk on concrete, asphalt, locker-room tile, or bleachers in cleats

  • Wipe off mud and dry at room temperature after every session — never in a dryer, on a radiator, or in direct sun

  • Rotate between two pairs if you train more than 3× per week
