Connecting your bank account and executing payments through Akahu in Road Ninja is designed to be a straightforward and secure process. Akahu is an open finance platform that allows users to securely connect their bank accounts to a trusted third-party service, enabling seamless payment initiation. Road Ninja integrates Akahu's payment services to allow customers to pay for services directly from their connected bank accounts.

Before you start: You will need to have an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy) installed on your device. This is a required first step to successfully complete the bank account linking process and helps keep your payments secure.

Connecting Your Bank Account in Road Ninja

To begin the process of linking your bank account for Akahu payments within the Road Ninja app, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your Company Profile within the Road Ninja app.

  2. Select 'Payment Methods' from the options.

  3. In the 'Bank Accounts' section, locate and click on the 'Add +' button.

  4. Then, click on 'Link Bank Account'. This action will securely redirect you from the Road Ninja app to the Akahu platform to complete the connection.

Securely Linking Your Bank Account via Akahu (Initial Setup)

Once you are securely redirected to the Akahu interface, you will follow these steps to link your bank account:

  1. Select Your Bank: You will be prompted to choose your bank from the list provided by Akahu.

  2. Enter Banking Credentials: Next, you will enter your standard online banking login details directly into the Akahu portal.

  3. Set Up 2FA with Your Authenticator App: Akahu will then display a unique QR code on your screen.

  4. Open your authenticator app on your smartphone.

  5. Select the option to add a new account.

  6. Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code displayed by Akahu.

  7. Your authenticator app will now be successfully linked to your Akahu connection and will immediately begin generating time-sensitive 6-digit codes.

  8. Verify & Connect: Finally, enter the current 6-digit code displayed by your authenticator app into the field provided by Akahu to complete the secure connection of your bank account.

Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for Multi-User Payments

If more than one person in your organisation needs to make payments on Road Ninja, through the same bank account, they'll also need to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), everyone must scan the same QR code during the bank account linking process at the same time.

⚠️ Important: The QR code is only shown once during setup. Once the setup is complete, it can’t be re-generated. Make sure all users have scanned the code before moving to the next step.

Each authenticator app must generate the same shared code for multi-user access to work correctly.

You can either:

  • Have all authorised users together, scanning the QR code from your screen simultaneously, or

  • Take a screenshot of the QR code and send it securely to each user so they can scan it immediately.

  • If you choose to take a screenshot, treat it as sensitive information. Store or share it only through secure company-approved channels, and delete it once everyone has completed their setup.

After everyone has scanned the code, your authenticator app(s) will start generating 6-digit verification codes. Enter the code into Road Ninja and click Verify.

Your company’s payment account is now secured with 2FA, and all authorised users will be able to authenticate payments using their shared access code.

Important Security and Consent Information

Securely Linking Your Bank Account via Akahu (Initial Setup)

Once you are securely redirected to the Akahu interface, you will follow these steps to link your bank account:

  1. You must explicitly consent to Akahu accessing your account information during setup. This consent can be managed and revoked at any time via the Akahu dashboard.

  2. Akahu may redirect you to your bank’s own login portal for additional verification, depending on your bank’s requirements.

  3. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your authenticator app or device. If you lose access or suspect compromise, contact Akahu or Road Ninja support immediately to reset your authentication.

  4. Always ensure there are sufficient funds in your linked bank account before initiating a payment, and double-check the transaction details for accuracy.

  5. Regularly review your bank statements and Akahu dashboard to reconcile payments and identify any issues.

Authorising Future Payments

Once your bank account is securely linked via Akahu and your authenticator app is set up, making future payments (for example, paying a driver or a booking fee) is quick and efficient:

  1. When you proceed to make a payment within Road Ninja, you will select the 'Pay with Bank Account' payment option.

  2. You will be briefly redirected to Akahu to confirm the payment details.

  3. Akahu will then prompt you to enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app.

  4. Once you enter the code, the payment will be securely initiated directly from your linked bank account.

  5. Customers can manage their ongoing consent and connected accounts through Akahu's dashboard (my.akahu.nz).

Every payment made through Akahu will require two-factor authentication for security purposes.
