How Do Rootabl Tracking Links Work with Multiple Product Options?

If you’re promoting different product types—say a free membership, a mid-tier plan, and a high-ticket upsell—you can still use a single affiliate link system and accurately track conversions. Here’s how it works and what you should know.

Using Tracking Links with Multiple Product Options:

Set a Primary Tracking Link

Choose one link that affiliates will share. For example, the main landing, offer page, or sales page relevant to your product(s). This becomes the “entry point” for tracking.

Adding Links for Different Products

If you have multiple product options, such as tiered membership plans or one-time purchases, you can add these as separate tracking links within Rootabl. Affiliates will still be able to see a primary link and any secondary links you add will also be credited.

Cookie Tracking Across Products

When a visitor clicks an affiliate’s link, Rootabl places a cookie in that browser/device. If the visitor later upgrades or purchases a different product variation on the same device and same browser, Rootabl still credits the affiliate—even though the product changed.

Tip: If you have specific high-ticket products that you don’t want eligible for commissions, you can apply filtering within your Rootabl account to ensure only the desired products are included in the affiliate program.

Some nuances to be aware of:

Device & Browser Limitations

Cookies apply per device and browser. If the visitor switches browsers or devices without clicking through an affiliate link again, the tracking may not carry over and the sale may not be attributed correctly.

Tracking of Free Products

If you set up a free product such as a "30-day free trial", Rootabl will still be able to capture the lead and attribute it to your affiliate because your customer is entering their email address. But, no sale will be credited at this time since no money transaction has actually occurred. If they continue to a paid-period and is charged then the original affiliate assigned will be credited with the recurring sale at that time.
