Is there a way to select more than 50 apps for blocking?

Can I allow only a few apps and block everything else?

Updated today

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

What is the "All Except" feature?

Due to Apple’s current limits, you can only select up to 50 apps at a time when creating a block. To help with this, we’ve an “All Except” option — which lets you block everything except a few key apps (Ex: Google Maps, Alarm, etc). This is currently available for "Block Now" and "Time of Day" blocks and can be a great way to simplify your setup.

How do I use the "All Except" feature?

Go to "Roots > Blocking > Add a Block (top of screen) > Select At a Specific Time of Day > Then select What to Block > Tap on Selected > Choose All Except > Select apps that you don't want to be blocked (all other apps will be blocked).

Note

For "Time Limit" and "All Day (Limited Unblocks)" blocks, the “All Except” option isn’t available just yet — but there’s a helpful workaround.

You can select entire categories in the app picker (like Social, Games, or Entertainment), and each full category only counts as one item toward the 50-item limit. This can help you block more apps without hitting the cap.

We’ll soon be adding “All Except” to “All Day (Limited Unblocks)” — stay tuned for updates!

Unfortunately, due to an Apple limitation, we won’t be able to bring “All Except” to “Time Limit”. 😔
