This article applies to the updated Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective February 2026. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.
If you pass away while covered by this plan, your beneficiary may choose one of the following options:
Local burial or cremation
Burial or cremation in the country where death occurred is covered.
Transportation of remains to your home country
Transportation of remains to the airport, seaport, or station closest to your home country address is covered.
Reasonable preparation costs required for transportation are included.
The selected option will be decided and coordinated by us in consultation with your beneficiary or family members.
Important conditions
The illness or injury that caused death must be covered under this plan.
All travel and transportation arrangements must be approved in advance and/or coordinated by us.
Who is my beneficiary?
You can designate a beneficiary through your dashboard. If you have not designated a beneficiary, one is automatically assigned in the following order:
If you are older than 18: your spouse. If you don't have a spouse, it will go to your children, split equally. If you also don't have children, it will go to your estate.
If you are younger than 18: your custodial parents. If you don't have custodial parents, it will go to your siblings, split equally. If you also don't have siblings, it will go to your estate.
Coverage limits
Up to $20,000 for transportation of remains
Up to $10,000 for local burial or cremation
