Nomad Insurance Essential (Updated Version): What if my trip is interrupted and I have to go home?

This article applies to the updated Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective February 2026. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.

Nomad Insurance Essential includes a trip interruption benefit. If an unforeseen event requires you to return immediately to your home country, the plan has a benefit that can cover the cost of a one-way economy ticket (air or ground transportation) as well as reasonable transportation to and from departure or arrival points.

What qualifies as an unforeseen event?

The event must be caused by one of the following:

  • 🔹 Fire or weather destroyed more than 40% of your residence

  • 🔹 Death or imminent death of an immediate family member:

    • Limited only to the following family members: parent, current spouse, sibling, child, or grandchild.

    • Any other family members, such as grandparents or in-laws, are not included in this benefit.

👉 If the incident relates to the death of a family member, you are covered to travel to either the location of their death or the location of their funeral.

Benefit limit

  • Up to USD $5,000 per active insurance period

  • Up to USD $10,000 lifetime maximum

Required documentation

  • Proof of the incident

  • Boarding passes and receipts for the transportation
