Language Detection for AI Agents

Written by Miguel from SalesCloser
Updated over 3 months ago

Language Detection allows your AI agents to automatically identify the language a visitor is using and respond accordingly. This helps create a more natural and accessible experience for users who interact with your agents in different languages.

How Language Detection Works

When enabled, the AI agent analyzes and detects the language before generating a response. The agent then uses the detected language to guide its replies, ensuring clearer and more relevant conversations.

This feature is especially useful if:

  • Your website or product serves an international audience.

  • You expect users to switch between languages.

  • You want to reduce friction for non-English speakers.

Supported Languages

Language Switch Detection implicitly supports the following languages:

  • Arabic

  • Dutch

  • English

  • French

  • German

  • Hungarian

  • Italian

  • Polish

  • Portuguese

  • Russian

  • Spanish

  • Turkish

Note: Implicitly means that the agent will automatically detect and change its language if someone talks in the languages listed above.
Nonetheless, if someone asks explicitly for another language, the AI agent can also speak these other languages:

  • Bulgarian

  • Chinese

  • Croatian

  • Czech

  • Danish

  • Filipino

  • Finnish

  • Greek

  • Hindi

  • Indonesian

  • Japanese

  • Korean

  • Malay

  • Norwegian

  • Romanian

  • Swedish

  • Slovak

  • Tamil

  • Ukranian

Enabling Language Detection

To enable Language Detection for an existing AI agent:

  1. Go to your AI Agent settings.

  2. Locate the Language Switch Detection option.

  3. Click on the checkbox to toggle the setting ON.

  4. Save your changes.

Once enabled, the agent will automatically detect and understand the supported language used by the visitor.

Important Notes

  • If the visitor uses a language that is not supported, the agent will fall back to its default language behavior.

  • Detection happens automatically and does not require any manual input from the visitor.

Best Practices

  • Enable Language Detection only if your agent content and configuration are prepared to handle multilingual conversations.

  • Test the feature using short conversations in different supported languages to confirm expected behavior.
