If you establish Florida residency before moving abroad (e.g., get a Florida driver’s license, declare domicile, and—when eligible—register to vote) and then register to vote using the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), your last U.S. residence will still be recorded as Florida after you move abroad. This means:
• Voting: You’ll remain tied to your Florida voting district. Voter registration is only a supporting indicator of domicile and not determinative on its own; questions about eligibility should be directed to election officials.
• Jury duty: Florida state courts use driver’s license records, so keeping a Florida license/ID can still trigger a state jury summons. Federal courts sometimes use voter rolls, so FVAP registration may lead to a federal summons—though you can generally be excused if you live abroad.
