When completing my Declaration of Domicile, do I list my foreign abodes?

How to complete your declaration of domicile if you live overseas

On the Sumter County Declaration of Domicile, the “other place of abode” section is meant to capture any additional residences a person maintains in another U.S. state or jurisdiction. The statutory purpose is to establish that Florida is the primary and permanent home, even if other residences exist.

If you only spend time overseas (and not in another U.S. state), it is generally acceptable to leave that section blank, since foreign residences are not relevant for determining Florida domicile under Florida law. What matters is affirming that Florida is their “predominant and principal home.”

So the guidance would be:

- If they keep another residence in another U.S. state → list it.

- If their only other residence is overseas → leave it blank.

That way, they establish clear intent that Florida is their permanent domicile without unnecessarily complicating the filing.
