IRS Form 8822 is used to notify the IRS of a change in your address. You can file this form at any time without needing to complete other administrative tasks, such as obtaining a driver’s license or registering to vote. In the To-Do tab, under the IRS 8822 Form section, start by completing this info:

Once you have filled in the correct checkboxes for your situation, then press Continue and press here to get your form.


Once you have your form, update it with your social security number.


Next, print, sign, and mail the form. The form cannot have a digital signature but requires a wet-ink signature with an actual pen.

A married couple can jointly complete the form.

Finally, depending on your most recent state, you will mail the form to a different IRS office. The customer portal will tell you exactly where to mail it.
