Obtaining a driver's license or state ID is an important step in establishing residency.
Texas does not publish a specific deadline for new residents to obtain a driver's license, and we have found that many of our customers complete this process over a few months without any issues.
There is a separate requirement worth knowing about: to be issued a Texas driver's license, one of your two proofs of residency must show that you have lived in Texas for at least 30 days. This 30-day requirement is waived if you surrender a valid, unexpired driver's license or ID from another state (or if you are applying for a commercial driver's license).
