Can I use an international notary (for example, at a US embassy) to notarize my 1583 form?

Written by Jameson Rader

No. USPS Form 1583 must be notarized by a notary commissioned in the United States, so a notary in another country — including one at a US embassy or consulate — cannot be used.

You do not need to be in the US

This is the part that surprises most people: you can complete the notarization from anywhere in the world using an online notary. The session is done over video with a US-commissioned notary, usually takes only a few minutes, and is available 24/7 — so there is no need to travel, find a local office, or work around a time zone.

We integrate directly with Proof.com, and BlueNotary.us is also accepted. You can start the process from the portal: app.savvynomad.io.

If you are outside the US

Two questions come up often for customers abroad, and both have straightforward answers:

Prefer to do it in person?

You can also use any notary commissioned in the United States. See how to use an in-person notary for the steps, including how to download and print your pre-filled form.

If you run into trouble with the online notary, we can help — see assistance with the online notary.
