Scale Studio Guideline Examples

Here are some guideline examples to choose from!

Updated this week

Here are a few sets of example guidelines, feel free to mix-n-match and pick and choose for your unique needs!

  • Stand in front of a window with even lighting for the best results.

  • Take the photo on your phone β€” extend your arm out with the phone slightly above you.

  • Stand just a bit sideways if possible, and look directly into the camera.

  • Get camera ready – we suggest a neutral-colored top, natural make up, and hair worn down to avoid any issues with the background remover.

  • Wear professional attire – Button ups, dresses, blazers, and blouses encouraged.

  • Posture is key! Keep your back straight and avoid slouching or hunching your shoulders.

  • Ask a friend to help. Having a friend or partner take your photo from the back camera on your phone will also help with quality.

  • Pick a location – a plain background works best. Find some natural light. Indirect sunlight is best and avoid taking your pictures at night.

  • Focus your eyes on the camera lens, take a deep breath, relax, and smile.

  • No visible brands or text on clothing. Go sports! But no brands.

  • Take a deep breath, relax, and smile. Think "This is just a headshot".

Suggested Guidelines for the background of uploaded photo

  • Well-Lit Area: Adequate lighting is crucial for a clear and well-exposed photo. Good lighting helps the camera capture details and colors accurately, making it easier for the background removal software to work effectively.

  • Background Contrast: The background should have a noticeable contrast in color or brightness compared to your hair and clothing. This contrast makes it easier for the software to distinguish between the subject and the background. For example, if you have dark hair and clothing, a lighter background can help, and vice versa.

  • Avoid Color Clashes: Be mindful of color clashes between your clothing and the background. If your clothing is too similar in color to the background, it can make it difficult for the software to separate them.

  • Consistency in Lighting: Ensure that the lighting on the subject is consistent with the lighting on the background. Harsh shadows or dramatic differences in lighting can make background removal more challenging.
