Overview

Scrypt Reminders is an automated prescription reminder service that helps pharmacies notify patients when their medication is due, owing, overdue, or approaching expiry.

Reminders are sent automatically via the patient’s preferred communication channel:

  • SMS, or

  • Scrypt Mobile App (if the patient is registered)

The service is designed to:

  • Improve medication adherence

  • reduce missed repeats

  • minimise manual follow-up by pharmacy staff.

How Scrypt Reminders Works

Scrypt Reminders works by using the patient’s medication details and Scrypt profile-configured settings, including:

  • The medication's last dispense date.

  • A configurable repeat frequency - representing how many days one supply lasts for the patient (for example, 28 days).

  • A calculated Days On Hand (DOH) - representing how many days of medication the patient has remaining of their medication.

  • Automatically sending reminder messages when configured trigger points are reached

All reminders are evaluated dynamically at the time they are due to send.

Requirements for Scrypt Reminders to Work

For prescription reminders to function correctly, all of the following are required:

1. Pharmacy Scrypt Reminder Settings Enabled

2. Patient Consent

  • The patient must provide consent for the pharmacy to send medication reminder messages. Consent is captured and timestamped within the Scrypt Reminders settings for the patient profile.

3. Patient Date of Birth

  • The patient’s date of birth must be recorded in the dispense system.

4. Patient Contact Details

  • At least one of the following must be recorded:

    1. valid mobile phone number, or

    2. The patient must be registered in the Scrypt Mobile App

Types of Prescription Reminders

Prescription reminders are grouped into four (4) main categories, with the Next Repeat Reminder further split into sub-types:

Next Repeat Reminders

Next Repeat Due

  • Sent when a prescription still has repeats remaining

  • Encourages the patient to place an order

Medication Due – No Repeats Remaining

  • Sent when the medication is due but no repeats remain

  • Encourages the patient to see their doctor for a new prescription

Script Expiring Reminder

  • Sent when a prescription is due but has not yet been dispensed

Script Owing Reminder

  • Sent when a prescription is due but has not yet been dispensed

Script Overdue Reminder

  • Sent when a prescription is due but has not yet been dispensed

Each reminder type can be enabled or disabled both:

  • Pharmacy level, and

  • Patient level.

Next Repeat Reminder Trigger Logics

Next Repeat reminders can run on two different logic types

Repeat Interval

Days On Hand (DOH) Based

  • Sends a reminder X days after the last dispense date

  • Commonly used when DOH cannot be reliably calculated or the medication is not categorised.

  • Relies on the Days On Hand (DOH) value calculated for the medication

  • A reminder is triggered when DOH falls below the defined threshold.

  • Medication must be categorised in the patient profile

Example:

  • Repeat Interval = 21 Days

  • Reminder is sent 21 days after the medication's last dispensed date

For Schedule 8 medicines:

  • The system will attempt to use the prescription's repeat interval

Example:

  • Default lead time = 5 days

  • Reminder is sent when DOH reaches 5 days or less

This lead time is configurable at a pharmacy level and is referred to as Lead Time in Communication Settings.
