Rule Settings

Written by Ari Schlacht

Every rule in Sequence comes with a few extra settings to help you control how it runs.

Active vs. Inactive

You can toggle any rule on or off.

  • Active rules show up on your map with a solid line

  • Inactive rules show up with a dotted line

Inactive rules keep their configuration, they just won’t run until you turn them back on.

Mark as Direct Deposit

Transfers sent from a Pod or an Income Source can be flagged as a direct deposit. This is set per transfer inside the rule, not on the whole rule, so you can mark individual transfers independently.

Open the transfer in your rule and check Mark this transfer as direct deposit. Once it’s flagged, you can download a direct deposit form for it. See Action Types for the full list of per-transfer options.

Run Rule Now

Sometimes you don’t want to wait for a trigger, or maybe a rule failed to run because there weren’t enough funds at the time.

The Run Rule Now button lets you manually fire the rule immediately.

This is especially useful if a rule failed due to insufficient funds and you’re ready to run that rule again.

Viewing vs editing a rule

When you open a rule, it starts in a read-only preview that shows the rule at a glance: where money moves from and to, when it runs, the next run, and the Rule ID. From there you can Run rule now, or click Edit rule to switch into edit mode and make changes. When you save, the rule returns to the preview.

Next, we’ll look at Rule Simulations, a way to test your rules before they go live so you can see exactly how they’ll behave.
