Negotiating shift terms isn’t just a practical step — it’s a strategic way to attract the right veterinary professionals while ensuring your clinic’s operational needs are met. For clinics, understanding Serenity Vet’s negotiation tools can lead to smoother scheduling, better alignment with relief vets, and consistent coverage.
Let’s explore how the negotiation tools work on Serenity Vet!
How does the pay negotiation work?
If a veterinarian applies for your shift with negotiated pay terms, you'll see both the original and negotiated costs displayed in the shift sidebar. Next to these values, you'll also find a profitability percentage, helping you quickly assess how the proposed rate compares to your original terms. To review and respond to a pay negotiation from a relief veterinarian, follow these steps:
Go to the Shift Management page and click on the shift application.
In the shift application sidebar, review the original and negotiated costs displayed.
Review the updated vet compensation rate in the price breakdown.
Decide whether to accept or decline the negotiation.
Click Approve to confirm the shift at the negotiated rate, or Decline to reject the terms.
Once you approve the pay negotiation, the shift will be confirmed, and the veterinarian will receive a corresponding notification. If you decline the shift application with the proposed pay terms, the veterinarian can still reapply with updated conditions.
How does the start/end time negotiation work?
If you enable flexible hours for a shift post, veterinarians can apply for your shift with negotiated start and end times. If the number of hours changes, the "Vet compensation" rate will be recalculated accordingly. In addition to negotiated start and end times, you'll see both the original and negotiated costs displayed in the shift sidebar.

How does the negotiation of surgery/dentistry services work?
If Dentistry and Surgery services are set as Preferred (but not Required) for a shift post, relief veterinarians can choose to either include or exclude these services when applying. If a veterinarian excludes a Preferred service during their application, the suggested extra payment for that service will be removed, and the "Vet compensation" rate will be recalculated accordingly. Both the original and negotiated costs will be displayed on the shift application sidebar. For more information about the Dentistry and Surgery service settings, please check THIS article.

Decide whether to accept or decline the shift application.
Click Approve to confirm the shift at the updated terms, or Decline to reject the terms.
