You can use Sharesies Spend with a physical card, virtual card, or both.
Physical cards
Order a physical card
A physical card is the plastic card you receive in the post. You can request one when you set up your Spend account by selecting ‘Send me a physical card in the post’.
If you skip the physical card at sign-up, you’ll be given a virtual card instead, and you can order a physical card later in the app (if you want to have a physical card).
Your card details will appear in the app straight away. You can use them to shop online while you wait for the physical card to arrive. You can also add the card to Google Wallet™ any time to pay in stores with Google Pay™.
You can have up to three Spend cards in total, with a maximum of one physical card and the rest virtual. All cards are linked to the same account, so any payments you make will come out of the same balance.
If you have fewer than three virtual cards, you can order a physical card straight away. If you already have three virtual cards, you’ll need to first delete an unused card or convert one to a physical card.
To order a physical card:
log in to Sharesies
go to Spend > Add a card
enter a card label, then make sure ‘Send me a physical card in the post’ is selected
tap Add card, and follow the prompts.
To convert a virtual card to a physical one:
log in to Sharesies
go to Spend > select a card
select Send me a card, and follow the prompts.
Once converted, the card number will stay the same, but the card image, expiry date, and security (CVC) code will update. Make sure to update any subscriptions or payments you have linked to the card with these new details.
Card delivery times
Sharesies Spend Cards are delivered by regular mail and usually arrive within 10–14 days. However, due to high demand, some cards ordered after the end of January 2026 may be delayed by a few weeks. We’ve extended the period that the Spend account fee is waived, so you won’t be charged while you’re waiting for your card. We’ll give you notice before the fee applies.
While you wait for your physical card, you can still use your virtual card for online payments and add it to Google Wallet to pay with Google Pay (Apple Pay is coming very soon).
Cards are sent via standard post, so tracking numbers aren’t available. You can, however, check your card’s order status in the app—just go to Portfolio > Spend, then tap on your card. You’ll see a temporary message showing your card’s status (‘Your card has been ordered’ or ‘Your card is on the way’) along with your delivery address.
If your delivery address isn’t correct, you can delete the card and order a new one to your preferred address. If your card hasn’t arrived within 6 weeks, follow these steps to replace it:
Open the Sharesies app and navigate to your Spend account.
Select the card that hasn’t arrived.
Go to the card settings and choose ‘Delete card.’ Follow the prompts to remove the non-delivered card from your account.
Once deleted, select ‘Add a card’ and follow the instructions to order a new physical card. Note: Replacements for non-delivery are free of charge.
Once your card is on the way, the temporary message will update to show your expected delivery timeframe.

Activate your physical card and set a PIN
Once the physical card arrives, you’ll need to activate it in the app before using it in person at a store. Online purchases and Google Pay will work before you activate your physical card.
To activate your physical card:
log in to Sharesies
Portfolio > select physical card > Activate card
following the prompts to create a 4-digit PIN.
Manage your PIN
To update your PIN:
log in to Sharesies
Portfolio > Spend > select physical card > Manage PIN
choose a 4-digit PIN.
Virtual cards
A virtual card is a digital-only card that lives in the app. You can add virtual cards at any time and use them for online purchases or Google Pay.
Add a virtual card
You can have up to three virtual cards in total for this one Spend account. You can delete an unused card to create a new one.
To add a new card:
log in to Sharesies
go to Spend > Add a card, and follow the prompts.
Your card details will appear in the app straight away. Use them to shop online or add the card to Google Wallet to pay in stores with Google Pay.
Managing your physical and virtual cards
Label your card
You can give each of your Sharesies Spend cards a label to make them easier to recognise in the app. By default, your card will be called ‘Sharesies Card’, but you can rename it anytime in the app. Your label only appears in the app, not on your physical card.
To edit a card label:
log in to Sharesies
go to Spend > select a card > Edit card label.
Add your card to Google Wallet
You can add one or more cards to Google Wallet, and tap your phone or smartwatch to pay anywhere Google Pay is accepted.
First, you’ll need to set up your Google Wallet. Download the Google Pay app from the Google Play Store or the App Store, then add your Google Account and follow the prompts to set up your Google Wallet.
To add your Sharesies Spend card to your Google Wallet:
login to the Sharesies app and go to Portfolio > Spend
select the card you’d like to add to Google Wallet
tap ‘Add to Google Wallet’ and follow the prompts to add your card.

Delete a card
To delete a card:
log in to Sharesies
select Spend > the card you want to delete
select Delete card and follow the prompts.
