To access Sharesies Spend before we roll out to everyone, you’ll first need to register your interest and be invited to the beta.

Online payments

Your card number, expiry date, and security (CVC) code are kept in the app, rather than on your physical card. This helps to protect your information if your card is lost or stolen.

To view your card details:

  • log in to Sharesies

  • Portfolio > Spend

  • select card > Card details.

From time to time you may need to approve an online payment in the app. This is an extra layer of security to help protect your card from unauthorised transactions.

To approve a payment, open the Sharesies app and go to Portfolio > Spend. If there’s a payment waiting, you’ll see a temporary message under your balance. Tap View payment, then follow the prompts to accept or decline it.

In-store payments

You’ll need to activate your physical card in the app before you can use it in stores.

Once you’ve activated it, for your first transaction, insert the card, select CREDIT, and enter your PIN.

For all transactions after the first, you can tap to pay or continue inserting your card and selecting CREDIT. This is because the Sharesies Debit Mastercard is processed over the credit card network (rather than the domestic EFTPOS network), but terminals haven’t been updated with a Debit button.

Card and transaction fees

Fees for the Spend service are waived for Sharesies customers until February 2026. You can find more information about Spend fees on the Spend section of the Pricing page on our website.

Some merchants may add a surcharge to transactions, and some ATM providers may charge a fee for withdrawals.

Spend and withdrawal limits

To help keep your account safe, your Spend card has some limits:

  • You can spend up to $5,000 NZD per day.

  • You can withdraw up to $2,000 NZD per day at an ATM.

If you ever need to make a payment over $5,000, you can ask us to temporarily increase your limit. Keep in mind there may be a short delay if you contact us outside business hours.

In the future, you’ll be able to manage your own spending limits in the app.

Where you can and can’t use your card

You can use your Spend card anywhere Mastercard debit card transactions are accepted.

Transactions are not accepted in:

  • Belarus

  • Iran

  • Myanmar

  • North Korea

  • Russia.
