Store your will

How and where to store your signed will, and how to upload a digital backup to the Sharesies app.

After signing and getting your will witnessed, it's important to store it somewhere safe. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Keep the original paper copy safe

This is the copy that will be used after your death. Make sure it’s stored somewhere secure. Do not attach anything to the will or staple it together. The High Court will reject the will if there are unexplained holes or marks, as it suggests pages might be missing.

Tell your executor where it is

Your executor will need to locate your will after your death, so make sure they know where it’s stored.

Upload a digital backup

You can upload a scan of your signed will to the Sharesies app for safekeeping.

To a upload a scan:

  • log in to the Sharesies app

  • go to Portfolio

  • scroll to Protect

  • tap Your cover > Your will

  • under Manage my will tap Upload a scan of my witnessed copy

  • follow the prompts to upload your will.

If you ever move or change your storage arrangements, make sure to update your executor so they always know where to find it.
