We’re required to withhold tax on the income you receive from your Sharesies investments at a set rate of usually 28% or 33%. If your income tax rate is lower than these rates, then you may be entitled to a tax refund.

For example: if your income tax rate is 17.5%, but you’ve been taxed on your investments at 28%, you may be entitled to a credit for the difference between your income tax and tax paid on your Sharesies investments.

Once IR has issued your automatic income tax assessment, you can use this info to claim a tax credit, or include it in your IR3 form if you need to fill one out.

You can find all the info you need to claim your tax credit in Sharesies through Account > Tax details > Tax statements.

Kids Accounts are also eligible for tax credits. A child won’t be able to claim them until they start working and earning income.

Sharesies doesn’t provide tax advice. If you're ever unsure about your tax circumstances, we recommend getting professional tax advice.
