About multiple portfolios

A portfolio is a way to group your investments. Every Sharesies Invest account starts with one portfolio, and you can open more to organise your investing however you like.

Why open more than one portfolio?

Having more than one portfolio could help you:

  • Group investments by theme, sector, risk, or return.

  • Keep a long-term strategy separate from shorter-term picks.

  • Track the returns of a group of investments on their own.

  • Set up different approaches side by side.

It’s up to you—you can open one extra portfolio or up to 50 portfolios.

What’s unique to each portfolio

Each portfolio has its own:

  • name and image

  • investments and holdings

  • past, pending, and upcoming activity

  • returns

  • dividend reinvestment plans (DRPs)—these are set per investment and per portfolio you hold that investment in

  • settings, like auto-invest, dividend reinvestment (including DRPs), US extended hours, and returns calculation.

Settings apply to one portfolio at a time, so you’ll need to turn a setting on in each portfolio where you want it.

What’s shared across portfolios

Some things sit at the account level, and are shared across all of your portfolios:

  • your Sharesies account and login

  • your Wallet and your transaction history: dividends, sale proceeds, top-ups and withdrawals, and money exchanges all sit in one shared Wallet

  • your tax information and reports

  • voting—your vote is cast on behalf of your entire holding across all portfolios.

Dividends across your portfolios

Dividends work the same way as always—the difference with more than one portfolio is where some settings apply. For the full basics, see dividends.

Contract notes and activity

Your activity feed and contract notes include the name of the portfolio each transaction relates to, so you can tell which portfolio a buy, sell, or dividend belongs to.

You’ll also see a portfolio’s dividend reinvestment plan (DRP) status on the investment’s page, where you can opt in or view an existing DRP.

Find and filter investments by portfolio

When you have more than one portfolio, you can filter your investments by portfolio to focus on one at a time.

Filter your investments by portfolio

On your investments list, you’ll see a filter for each of your portfolios, labelled with the portfolio’s name. Tap a portfolio’s filter to only show the investments held in that portfolio.

You can filter by one portfolio at a time.

Switch between portfolios on an investment

  • Log in to Sharesies.

  • Go to the investment’s page.

  • Tap the 'Your investment' tab.

If you hold the investment in more than one portfolio, use the portfolio dropdown (View investment in) to switch between them.
