There are three plans to choose from—a $3 plan, a $7 plan, and a $15 plan. Plans can be paid monthly or annually. Plan coverage renews monthly.

There’s also a $1 kids plan especially for Kids Accounts—the kids plan can only be paid for monthly.

Select a plan

To select a plan, go to Settings > Pricing plans.

You can pay for your plan using the NZD in your Sharesies Wallet, or by debit or credit card.

If you start your plan on the 29th, 30th, or 31st of a month, your coverage will renew on the first day of the month after next. It’ll then continue to renew on the first day of each following month.

For example, if you start a plan on 31 March, your coverage will next renew on 1 May and continue to renew on the first day of the months that follow (as long as the plan fee is paid).

Change or cancel a plan

You can change or cancel a plan at any time—cancellation is effective from the end of your current payment period.

To change or cancel a plan, go to Settings > Pricing plans.

You’ll see the details of your current plan, and the option to either Change plan or Cancel plan.

  • If you’re downgrading your plan (e.g. $15 plan to $7 plan), your higher plan (e.g. $15 plan) will remain active for the rest of the month, and then change to the lower plan (e.g. $7 plan).

  • If you’re upgrading your plan (e.g. $7 plan to $15 plan), you’ll be charged the difference in plan fees (e.g. $8 if you're paying monthly) and your new plan will be active straight away.

  • If you cancel your plan, the cancellation will take effect at the end of your current payment period.

  • If you’re changing from paying monthly to annually, or annually to monthly, your new fee will be charged at the end of your current payment period.

Pay for a plan

You can pay for a plan monthly or annually.

You can pay for a plan using your Sharesies Wallet (NZD), or a credit or debit card.

If your chosen payment method is a debit or credit card and your payment fails, we'll try again (if you're paying monthly) or cancel your plan (if you're paying annually, or if your monthly payment fails a second time).

If your chosen payment method is your Wallet and you don’t have enough NZD in your Wallet to cover your plan fee, your Wallet balance may go into negative. If you’re not able to pay your plan fee for two months in a row, your plan won’t renew the second time (and the 1.9% transaction fee (and per order fee caps) will apply to all orders).

Your plan only covers transaction fees on the orders you place within your coverage balance. It doesn’t cover other fees such as currency exchange fees, or card top-up fees.

Go to Wallet > Transaction history to see when you’ve been charged for a your plan (you can filter by Money out to find these more easily).

Coverage for plans

Each month, your plan will cover the transaction fees up to a set amount for individual buy and sell orders, as well as a separate, higher amount for auto-invest orders (including one-off buys for auto-invest orders). Coverage renews every month, regardless of whether you’ve chosen to pay for a plan monthly or annually.

Check out our website for more info about how coverage works.

After you’ve used up your plan’s coverage, you’ll be charged a transaction fee of 1.9% on all additional orders you place. You can also upgrade your plan to receive more coverage straight away.

To see how transaction fees were covered for an order (and any additional transaction fees paid), go to the Activity feed or the contract note for the order.
