How contributions are made:

  1. If you've opted in to KiwiSaver and you're currently working for an employer, you’ll be contributing through employee contributions

  2. Your employer contributes at least 3% through employer contributions

  3. You can also make a voluntary contribution.

Initially, you can only make a contribution by making a direct payment to Inland Revenue (IR).

  • Log in to your online banking

  • find the ‘pay tax’ function

  • select the tax type KiwiSaver contributions by member (KSS)

  • follow the steps to contribute your chosen amount.

You can update your contribution rate at any time by providing written notification to your employer with a KS2 form. You can read more about this on the IRD website—keep in mind that you’ll need to contribute at least 3% if you’re currently working.
