Kids Account transfer age

This is the age when the child becomes entitled to the money and investments in the Kids Account.

The transfer age is automatically set at 25 years old when the Kids Account is created. Update this anytime in the Kids Account by going to Settings > Transfer age. The minimum age you can set is 18 years old.

When the child reaches their outlined transfer age, they’re able to request to take control of their account themselves.

No new account is required to upgrade a Kids Account. When the child reaches the age to take over, we’ll email a link directly to the child's email address. They simply click that link to finish setting up their own login and transition the account to their name.

From this age, the account owner can contact us at help@sharesies.co.nz to start the transfer process, or the child can contact us themselves. They’ll need to provide some more documentation to have an independent Sharesies account.

Once this happens, the account will move into the child’s name, and they can manage their own investment Portfolio.

Transferred Kids Accounts will need to verify their ID.
