So, you want to add a profile video? Great News!

Try to test out your camera in advance and make sure you are using a device that records .MP4 or .MOV formats. Most mobile phones, built-in computer cameras or digital cameras will work fine. The final video must not exceed 100MB in size either so consider reading this article about how to reduce the size of a video.

Ensure a nice clean background and plenty of lighting directed at you (the more, the better) for the best video quality on a built-in computer device or mobile camera. Natural light by a window is fine as long as there are minimal shadows cast over you, but lots of additional lighting such as lamps also help. It's also important to try and make the camera level and centred with your face so it may need to be propped up on some books, for example! Make sure to also look straight in the camera as much as possible.

Content

Basic prompts to cover in the video:

  • Hi! My name is [name]

  • I teach [main subjects] at [subject level(s)]

  • I can teach [exam boards]

  • What I can do for you is [end with a positive impact of your services]

Prepare a brief speech lasting around 30 seconds (60-seconds maximum) using a script if necessary based on the prompts above so you can speak quickly and clearly.

Here is an example made by one of our team members, James!

Do's & Don'ts

We know everyone's setup is different, so we have compiled a list of do's and don'ts to help you channel your inner Spielberg and get the best results, making your Sherpa profile come alive!

Uploading

Once you are happy with the video, upload it for approval in your profile settings.

It will need to be checked to see if it meets our guidelines and then it will be approved to appear on your profile and in search results. You can check on the status of your video approval or upload an updated video from the settings page too!
