Linking and Unlinking Layers in the Layer Tree

Layers are the building blocks of your project, representing elements like 3D Tiles models, point clouds, annotations, or panorama groups. The Layer Tree in Explore shows how these layers are connected and organized.

Here's how linking and unlinking layers work:

  1. Linking Layers:

    • When you link one layer to another, the linked layer inherits the movement and rotation of the parent layer.

    • For example, linking an annotation group to a 3D Tiles model ensures they stay in sync—move or rotate the model, and the annotation group automatically follows, maintaining their relative positions.

    • Additionally, when layers are linked, turning on/off the visibility of the parent layer will automatically turn on/off the visibility of all child layers as well. However, you can always turn on/off the visibility of child layers directly, regardless of the parent layer’s visibility setting.

  2. Unlinking Layers:

    • Unlinking makes a layer independent. It no longer follows the parent’s transformations, giving you the flexibility to move or adjust it separately.

How to Link/Unlink Layers

To Link Layers

  1. Click the ... menu of the layer.

  2. Select "Link to Layer."

  3. Search for and select the parent layer you wish to link to.

  4. The child layer will now nest under the parent layer and follow its transformations.

To Unlink Layers

  1. Click the ... menu of the linked layer.

  2. Select "Link to Layer."

  3. Click the X to unlink the layer.

  4. The layer is now independent and will no longer follow the parent’s transformations.
