How to Upload XGrids-Processed Data in SKAND

Updated this week

This guide shows you how to verify and create point cloud and panorama group layers from XGrids-processed data in SKAND. The processed data were exported from LixelStudio, XGrids’ processing software.

Verification of Processed XGrids Data

First, verify that all processed data have been successfully saved to your local machine.

  1. Look for the ResultData folder where you exported all the files after XGrids processing.

  2. Navigate through the folders until you reach the data folder.

  3. SKAND needs three (3) files in order to visualize XGrids data:

    • panoramicImage folder

    • Point cloud in .las format

    • panoramicPoses .csv

  4. Upload all the necessary data on your SKAND account. Don't forget to link them on your project as well.

Once all data has been verified, users can proceed with creating point cloud and panorama group layers in SKAND.

Creating a Point Cloud Layer from XGrids Data

  1. Click the New Layer button to initiate point cloud layer creation.

  2. Input a layer name, set the capture date, and choose Point Cloud as your layer type. Click Next to proceed.

  3. Select the option applicable to your data. If you didn't use GNSS transformation on XGrids, second option would be most ideal.

  4. Click Next to proceed.

  5. Select the .las file by clicking the "+" button.

  6. Select the .las file from the list and click Select.

  7. Click Done to create your point cloud layer.

Creating a Panorama Group Layer from XGrids Data

  1. Click New Layer to initiate Panorama Group layer creation.

  2. Input a layer name, and a capture date. Choose Panorama Group as layer type. Click Next to proceed.

  3. Select XGrids as the data format option. Click Next to proceed.

    Note: EPSG code is optional.

  4. Select the files by clicking the "+" button.

  5. Select panoramicPoses.csv and the panoramicImage folder. Click Select to proceed.

  6. Click Done to create your Panorama Group layer.

Pro tip: For non-georeferenced processed data, users may need to use the 3D Transformation Tools to move the point cloud and panorama group layers to the correct location.

Note: SKAND currently supports .las point cloud exports from LixelStudio. Support for .e57 files, which include panorama photos, is currently in development.
