Who can join a Student Welcome Group?

Eligibility criteria and requirements for joining a Student Welcome Group

Student Welcome Groups are open to any students, staff members, alumni, and connected community members linked to the participating university campuses who are happy to get involved.

To be matched with a group, you must be:

  1. Living in Australia.

  2. Be willing to work with people of all backgrounds, and have an inclusive attitude.

  3. Affiliated with one of the universities welcoming students through the RSSP (as a current student, staff member, alumni or member of the university community).

  4. Committed to the goal of the RSSP to build a sustainable migration pathway for refugee students to settle and study in Australia.

  5. Committed to participating in the group for the duration of the incoming refugee student’s first year in Australia, contributing approximately 1-2 hours per week of your time.

  6. Willing to obtain a police check

  7. Willing to comply with the Student Welcome Group Code of Conduct, participant agreement and Skill Path policies relating to privacy and safeguarding.

  8. Available to complete training with Skill Path Australia and Community Refugee Sponsorship Australia:

  • 2-3 hours of online training (self paced)

  • Half day in-person training close to your university.
