The Refugee Student Settlement Pathway is a groundbreaking new program enabling refugee students to settle and access higher education in Australia. The program makes it possible for refugees aged 18-30 who are currently living displaced in Malaysia, Thailand and India to migrate permanently to Australia and study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level at an Australian university.

The Refugee Student Settlement Pathway is inspired by Canada's refugee education pathways program, which has provided higher education qualifications and protection to more than 2,000 refugees since its inception.

Pilot stage

A cohort of 20 refugee students has been selected for the first intake and will arrive in Australia on Special Humanitarian Visas to take up university studies from semester 1, 2026. Each student will be supported on their learning journey by an Australian university and a local campus support group to assist them with settlement and integration.

Next steps

Skill Path Australia is negotiating with the Australian government to expand the program. We will announce the next intake soon. Over time the program will expand to include new countries.
