A Starter Guide to Skimmer Alerts & Issues

Skimmer is already watching every stop, reading, payment, and dosage. This guide shows you how to put that to work, with ready-made packs of alerts and issues that catch problems before they cost you a customer or a dollar.

Think of this page as a menu

You don't need every alert, you need the handful that solve a headache you already have. Each pack below is built around a real problem (an angry callback, a green pool, a part that never got billed) and tells you exactly what to flip on and what you get for it.

Setup Guides

Starter Packs

Each pack is a small group of alerts and issues that work better together than alone, already matched to a specific business problem. Turn one on as-is, or steal the pieces that fit and leave the rest. Open any pack below to see what's inside and why it matters.

In practice, the alerts pros reach for first are the chemistry-threshold ones (reading too high or too low) and the day-to-day operational ones (work order added, time at a stop). If you're not sure where to begin, those are the proven starting points.

New to this? Turn on the protect-the-relationship pack and the don't-forget-to-invoice pack first. They solve the two things every pool company feels: customers calling angry, and money left on the table. Get comfortable, then layer in the rest.

A quick note: "(field-reported)" means it comes from a tech tapping an Issue in the app, not a threshold you set. "(none)" means that column doesn't apply to this pack.

The protect the relationship pack

Alerts: (none, this one is all field-reported)

Issues:

  • Water Level Low (Cust. Email ON)

  • System Down (Email ON (optional Panel ON) to Repair Manager or person in charge of quoting)

  • Repair Needed (Email ON (optional Panel ON) to Repair Manager or person in charge of quoting)

  • Product Installed (Cust.Email ON, Panel ON)

  • Photo Requirement + Note Requirement ON for all

Outcome: Field problems become proactive customer heads-ups instead of angry callbacks. Your tech taps, your customer gets a professional email, your office stays ahead of it.

The protect the margin pack (popular)

Alerts:

  • Free Chlorine high

  • CYA high

  • Tabs higher than your per-visit cap

  • Shock higher than your per-visit cap

  • Liquid Chlorine dosage too high

  • Too much time at stop

Don't have a per-visit cap yet? Start by reviewing the Alert Inspiration thresholds, then set yours once you see your own averages.

Issues:

  • Equipment Aging (Panel ON - Checked by Admin/ Sales/User Responsible for Quoting)

  • Photo Requirement + Note Requirement ON

Outcome: The quiet profit killers in one view: overdosing, chlorine lock that makes you overdose more, underpriced pools eating labor, and aging equipment you can quote instead of nurse.

The cover your back pack

Alerts: (field-reported)

Issues:

  • Pre-Existing Damage

  • Property Damage Not Ours

  • Unsafe Conditions for Tech (photo required)

Outcome: Timestamped, photographed proof you flagged a problem before anyone could blame you for it.

The green pool prevention pack (popular)

Alerts:

  • Free Chlorine low

  • CYA high

  • Phosphates high

Don't have a per-visit cap yet? Start by reviewing the Alert Inspiration thresholds, then set yours once you see your own averages.

Issues:

  • Green or Cloudy Water (Email ON (optional Panel ON) to Route Manager or person in charge of quoting)

  • Algae Visible (Email ON (optional Panel ON) to Route Manager or person in charge of quoting)

  • Photo Requirement + Note Requirement ON

Outcome: Catch a pool turning from both directions: the chemistry that predicts it and the tech who sees it, before the customer does. Flip this one on tighter in summer when pools turn fast, and ease off in fall.

The cash flow pack

Alerts:

  • Payment failed

  • AutoPay turned off

  • AutoPay payment method expired

Issues: (none)

Outcome: Plug the silent recurring-revenue leaks before a month of billing slips by.

The eyes for the pipeline pack

Alerts: (field-reported)

Issues:

  • Equipment Aging

  • Cracked Plaster

  • Salt Cell Aging

  • Heater Not Firing

Outcome: Turns every tech into a set of eyes for your sales pipeline. The repairs you used to walk past become tracked leads.

The did the work actually happen pack

Alerts:

  • No reading recorded at stop

  • Stop completed in under X minutes

  • No dosages for X weeks

Issues: (none)

Outcome: Catches the drive-by stop, the tech who marks complete from the truck without getting out. Not about distrust, it's about knowing a service really happened before the customer notices it didn't.

The daily dont forget to invoice pack

Alerts:

  • Work order finished

  • Job work complete

Issues: (none)

Outcome: Everything that needs to be true before you hit send on invoices, confirmed in your inbox.
