Identity Verification and KYC

How Slay Markets verifies your identity (KYC) to open a futures account: required photo ID and address verification documents, OFAC/watchlist screening, why verification fails, and how to fix rejected documents.

How Slay Markets verifies your identity (KYC) when you open a futures account, what documents are required, why verification fails, and how to fix a rejected ID or address document.

Slay Markets is required by federal law to verify the identity of every client before opening an account. This process is called Know Your Customer (KYC). When you apply, you upload a government-issued photo ID and a separate address verification document, and Slay Markets reviews those documents and screens your identity against regulatory watchlists as part of the standard review. Most clients pass without any extra action; if a document is unclear or missing, your application shows "Additional Information Required" and re-uploading a corrected document usually resolves it.

Slay Markets is the brand of Tradeify Brokerage LLC d/b/a Slay Markets, an Introducing Broker registered with the CFTC and an NFA Member (NFA ID 0575972), guaranteed by NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC. KYC is mandated by the Bank Secrecy Act and the USA PATRIOT Act and is not optional; Slay Markets cannot open an account for anyone whose identity cannot be verified.

Why does Slay Markets require identity verification (KYC)?

Slay Markets requires identity verification (KYC) because it is mandated by the Bank Secrecy Act and the USA PATRIOT Act. These laws require financial institutions to verify the identity of every customer before opening an account, which reduces fraud, money laundering, and the financing of illegal activities.

KYC is not optional. Slay Markets cannot open an account for any person whose identity cannot be verified to the required standard.

What documents does Slay Markets need to verify your identity?

Slay Markets identity verification requires two different documents during the application: a government-issued photo ID and a separate address verification document dated within the last 90 days showing a current residential address. The same document cannot be used for both — a passport, for example, satisfies photo ID but not address verification.

Full document requirements, including accepted document types and file format specifications, are described in What Documents Do I Need to Open an Account?.

How does Slay Markets identity verification work?

Slay Markets identity verification (KYC) happens in two steps: first a document review, then an automatic identity cross-check against regulatory watchlists. Both steps are part of the standard application review by the New Accounts team, and most clients pass both without any action required.

Step 1 of KYC — Document review

In Step 1 of Slay Markets KYC, the New Accounts team reviews the government-issued photo ID and the separate address verification document you uploaded against the information provided in your application — confirming your name and residential address match across the documents and the application.

Step 2 of KYC — Identity cross-check against watchlists

In Step 2 of Slay Markets KYC, Slay Markets screens your identity against regulatory watchlists required by anti-money-laundering (AML) regulations:

  • OFAC Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list — individuals and entities subject to U.S. financial sanctions.

  • PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) databases — individuals with elevated public trust positions.

  • Other relevant watchlists as required by AML regulations.

This watchlist screening is automatic and happens as part of the standard review process. Most clients pass this check without any action required.

What happens if Slay Markets identity verification fails?

If Slay Markets cannot verify your identity based on the initial submission, your application status changes to "Additional Information Required" in your Account Dashboard. Slay Markets does not send email notifications — check your Account Dashboard for the specific document requested, then upload a corrected version of that document directly in the dashboard. In most cases, re-uploading a clearer or correct document resolves the issue and the review continues. Re-uploading does not restart the review clock — the New Accounts team continues reviewing from your original submission date. Common reasons KYC document review fails:

  • The photo ID is expired, blurry, or partially cropped — upload a clear, in-date, fully visible photo ID.

  • The name on the document does not match the application — upload a document that matches the legal name on your application, or contact support if your name has changed.

  • The address document is older than 90 days or does not show a residential address — upload an address document dated within the last 90 days showing a current residential address (not a PO Box).

  • The same document was used for both photo ID and address verification — upload two separate documents, one for photo ID and a different one for address proof.

If you are unsure which document to re-upload, contact support at support@slaymarkets.com. Support is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET (closed weekends and federal bank holidays), accepts email 24/7, and responds within 1 business day.

When does an identity verification failure require escalation?

Some Slay Markets identity verification failures cannot be resolved by re-uploading documents and require escalation to the New Accounts team. This happens when:

  • Automated watchlist screening produces a potential match requiring manual review.

  • The identity cannot be confirmed from the documents provided.

  • There is a name or identity discrepancy that requires clarification.

When escalation is required, your application remains under review by the Slay Markets New Accounts team. Do not re-upload the same documents — monitor your application status in your Account Dashboard, or contact support at support@slaymarkets.com for an update. Slay Markets cannot always explain the specific reason for an identity verification failure; if you have been asked for additional documentation and are unsure what is needed, contact support at support@slaymarkets.com (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET, response within 1 business day).

Frequently asked questions about Slay Markets identity verification

Q: Why can't Slay Markets tell me why my verification failed?

A: In certain cases, disclosing the specific reason for a verification failure could compromise the integrity of the AML screening process or alert individuals to how screening works. Where possible, Slay Markets provides the reason — but in cases involving regulatory obligations, what can be shared may be limited.

Q: Can I use the same document for both photo ID and address verification?

A: No. Slay Markets requires two separate documents — a government-issued photo ID and a different address verification document. Using the same document for both is a common reason verification fails. A passport, for example, satisfies photo ID but not address verification.

Q: How recent does my address verification document have to be?

A: Your address verification document must be dated within the last 90 days and show a current residential address. Documents older than 90 days, or that show a PO Box instead of a residential address, are rejected.

Q: I submitted my documents twice and my application is still pending. What should I do?

A: Most Slay Markets applications are reviewed by the New Accounts team within 1 to 2 business days after submission, so some pending time is normal. Re-submitting documents multiple times without guidance can slow the process. If review exceeds 3 business days without an update, email support at support@slaymarkets.com with your application date and account email; the team will review your status. See Account Approval Timelines for full details.

Q: Is identity verification optional, or can I skip it?

A: KYC is not optional. It is mandated by the Bank Secrecy Act and the USA PATRIOT Act, and Slay Markets cannot open an account for anyone whose identity cannot be verified to the required standard.

If verification fails, your application shows "Additional Information Required" — check your Account Dashboard for the specific document requested and re-upload a corrected version.
