Bulk Import Goals

Adding goals one student at a time? No thanks.

During the caseload import process, you can also upload student goals and objectives using a single CSV file. This saves time during setup, especially if you are new to SLP Toolkit or adding new students at the start of the school year.

Need a template? Download sample CSV file here. Then quickly copy/paste your students' goal and objectives from your district's IEP software.

Tips for formatting your CSV file

To help your import go smoothly:

  1. Format dates as MM/DD/YYYY.

  2. Use only one header row with column names.

  3. Place each goal and objective in its own column.

  4. Use goal/objective names like Goal 1, Objective 1.1, Objective 1.2, etc.

  5. New users can upload their full caseload.

  6. Returning users should upload only newly added students to avoid duplicates.

Your CSV file can include special characters like commas, quotation marks, and line breaks as long as they are formatted correctly for a CSV file. For example, text with commas should be enclosed in quotes.

Important note for returning users

The caseload import is designed for adding new students only. It is not intended to update goals for students who are already in your caseload.

To avoid creating duplicate student records, returning users should only include newly added students in the import file.

Getting Started

  1. On the Caseload page click Actions then Import Caseload.

  2. Then choose your CSV file to begin the import process.

  3. Each student can have up to 5 goals, and each goal can have up to 5 objectives.

    • Goal and objective fields are optional, so you can still import students even if your file does not include goals.

    • For best results, use clear column names in your CSV file, such as:

Column Name

What it means

Goal 1

First goal

Objective 1.1

First objective for Goal 1

Objective 1.2

Second objective for Goal 1

Goal 2

Second goal

Objective 2.1

First objective for Goal 2

4. Your CSV file can also include basic student information, such as:

  • First and last name

  • Birth date

  • IEP due date

  • Evaluation due date

  • School

  • Teacher

  • Room number

  • Grade

Matching goal and objective columns

SLP Toolkit will try to automatically match your CSV column names to the correct import fields, but always double check before importing.

Where to find imported goals

Imported goals are added to the student’s profile under:

Students page > Assessment > Goals

  1. If your import includes an IEP due date, SLP Toolkit will use that information when creating the Annual Review period.

  2. If no IEP date is included, the Annual Review period will show as No Start Date / No End Date.

How goals are organized

Goals and objectives will appear in order based on the column names in your CSV file. For example:

Goal 1
Objective 1.1
Objective 1.2

Goal 2
Objective 2.1
Objective 2.2

Data calculator defaults to Accuracy

  • All imported goals are automatically set to Accuracy.

  • After import, you can update the goal type if needed by going to the student’s goals and using the goal type dropdown.

  • You can change the goal type to Opportunity or Frequency.

That's it! After import, you can review each student’s goals and make any needed updates from the Students tab.
