Reject Code: F8962-001-01
If Form 8962, 'TotalExemptionsCnt' has a non-zero value, then it must be equal to 'TotalExemptionsCnt' in the return.

🔍 Common Reasons for This Reject:

  • The taxpayer, spouse (if applicable), or dependents were miscounted.

  • A dependent was marked incorrectly (e.g., as a "qualifying child not a dependent").

  • The tax family size was manually adjusted incorrectly.

✅ How to Fix:

  1. Double-check the tax family size on Form 8962 and ensure it matches:

    • The taxpayer (1)

    • The spouse (if filing jointly)

    • Dependents (unless noted as a "qualifying child not a dependent")

  2. Do not adjust this number manually unless:

    • The taxpayer shares a marketplace policy with another tax family and

    • They are not claiming any premium tax credit (in which case, the tax family size should be set to zero, and Part IV must be completed for shared policy allocation).

🔄 Once corrected, resubmit the return to resolve the rejection. 🚀
