Reject Code: F1040-034-06
The 'WithholdingTaxAmt' on Form 1040 must equal the total of the following amounts:

  1. All 'WithholdingAmt' from [OtherWithholdingStatement] where 'WithholdingCd' is "FORM 1099"

  2. All 'WithholdingAmt' from Forms W-2

  3. All 'FederalIncomeTaxWithheldAmt' from Forms W-2G

  4. 'AddlMedcrRRTTaxWithholdingAmt' from Form 8959

  5. 'TotalAmt' from [BackupWhSchedulesK1Statement]

  6. All 'FederalIncomeTaxWithheldAmt' from Forms RRB 1042-S

  7. All 'NetTaxWithheldAmt' or 'FederalIncomeTaxWithheldAmt' from Forms SSA 1042-S (if applicable)
Unless Form 8958 is included in the return. A tolerance of $5.00 is permitted.

Reject code F1040-034-06 occurs when an amount is entered in the Other Federal Withholdings section that is not linked to a valid tax document, such as a Form W-2 or Form 1099. If the amount exceeds $5, the IRS will reject the e-filed return.

This reject may also occur if Form 1042-S withholdings are included, as this form does not have a designated section in the return. (Typically, a taxpayer receiving Form 1042-S is a nonresident filing Form 1040-NR.)

To resolve this reject, review whether the entry in the Other Federal Withholdings section is placed correctly or should be entered elsewhere in the return. For example, if the withholdings are from a 1099-MISC, enter them in the appropriate 1099-MISC section. If the withholdings are from Form 2439, enter them in the section designated for that form.

Also, check if withholdings from non-1099 forms have been mistakenly entered as 1099 withholdings, or vice versa.

If the entry is correct and the return still rejects, the return will need to be printed and mailed.
