Reject Code: F1040-034-06
The 'WithholdingTaxAmt' on Form 1040 must equal the total of the following amounts:
All 'WithholdingAmt' from the [OtherWithholdingStatement] where 'WithholdingCd' equals "FORM 1099"
All 'WithholdingAmt' from Forms W-2
All 'FederalIncomeTaxWithheldAmt' from Forms W-2G
'AddlMedcrRRTTaxWithholdingAmt' from Form 8959
'TotalAmt' from [BackupWhSchedulesK1Statement]
All 'FederalIncomeTaxWithheldAmt' from Forms RRB 1042-S
'NetTaxWithheldAmt' or 'FederalIncomeTaxWithheldAmt' from Forms SSA 1042-S (if non-zero)
Unless Form 8958 is included in the return. A tolerance of $5.00 is allowed.
Reject code F1040-034-06 occurs when an amount is entered in Other Federal Withholdings without being tied to an official tax document, such as Form W-2 or Form 1099. If the amount exceeds $5, the IRS will reject the electronic filing.
This reject can also occur if withholdings from Form 1042-S are entered, as that form doesn’t have a specific section in the return. (Note: Form 1042-S is typically used for nonresident taxpayers filing Form 1040-NR.)
To resolve this reject, check if the amount in the Other Federal Withholdings section is correctly placed. For example, if the withholdings are from a 1099-MISC, enter them in the 1099-MISC section. If they are from Form 2439, enter them in the appropriate section for that form.
Also, ensure that withholdings are correctly categorized. For instance, non-1099 withholdings should not be entered as 1099 withholdings, or vice versa.
If the entry is correct but the return still rejects, the return will need to be printed and mailed.
