How to Enter a W2 in TaxSlayer (Step-by-Step Guide)

Filing taxes can feel overwhelming, but with TaxSlayer’s streamlined interface guided walkthrough, entering a W2 becomes simple and accurate.
Here’s what the process looks like:

  1. Start by clicking “Begin” in the W2 entry section.

  2. Identify whether your W2 is standard or corrected.

  3. Input the Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Box B.

  4. Type the Employer’s name exactly as shown in Box C.

  5. Enter the employer’s full address from Box B, including ZIP code.

  6. If the city auto-filled by the system doesn’t match the W2, correct it.

  7. Update the client’s address if it differs from Box E on the W2.

  8. Enter the wages and federal withholding from Boxes 1 and 2.

  9. Verify that details in Boxes 3 through 6 are accurate.

  10. Click “Select” to move to state information.

  11. Choose the state listed in Box 15.

  12. Enter the state EIN from Box 16.

  13. Add the state income tax amount from Box 17.

  14. If Boxes 18–20 are filled, match and input that information as well.

  15. Click “Continue”, review all details, and click “Continue” again to save.This tutorial ensures accurate data entry for your W2 form minimizing errors and speeding up your filing process.
